The Centre for Community Impact (CCI) is a multi-award-winning South African non-profit organisation, with a 20-year track record of supporting South Africa’s public health programmes. CCI was originally established in 2004 as the Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa (JHHESA), through the Johns Hopkins University Centre for Communication Programmes. In 2012, the organisation transitioned to the Centre for Communication Impact, a name it carried until 2023, when it formally transitioned to its current identity as the Centre for Community Impact. This name reflects the organisation’s expanded mandate and evolution.
Over the years, CCI has evolved from a communication-focused entity into an organisation providing comprehensive services across the full public health prevention, treatment, care, and support cascade. The organisation has successfully designed and implemented Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention, response and mitigation programmes. These GBV programmes have a strong focus on policy and coordination, social and behaviour change communication (SBCC), psychosocial support and improving access to justice for GBV survivors.
CCI has been funded by several donors in the past from donor agencies, international donors, private sector and other multilateral funding mechanisms including but not limited to PEPFAR through USAID and CDC, the Global Fund, Anglo American and many others. From October 2025 to March 2028, CCI has been selected by the Global Fund as one of the Principal Recipients (PRs) to coordinate and manage the implementation of programmes funded under Grant Cycle Seven (7) in South Africa. CCI is leading the implementation of three modules namely (i) Sex Worker Programme through its network of Sub-Recipients, cross eight (8) provinces in South Africa; (ii) the Community Systems Strengthening Programme and, (iii) the Human Rights and Gender module respectively.
