The discussion assists people to identify what problems in their own area increase the likelihood of HIV infection and violence within their community, and to find solutions to these.
In these sessions, participants are introduced to the related services in their community. Local leaders are given an opportunity to pledge and advocate their support for community actions that reduce violence against women and girls.
We live in a world where we often face struggles at school, in romantic relationships, with our families, with our health and with our decisions about the future.
You can take action today to make sure you are better able to cope with these challenges.
The DREAMS project aims for an AIDS-free future for girls and women. You can get involved in programmes to be part of this future.
Attending Woza Asibonisane! workshops is the first step to finding information that can help you make decisions that are right for you. This can help you to create a healthy future for yourself, your family and your community.
The Woza Asibonisane! Stepping Stones workshops provide a space to talk about relationships, gender roles and families. These sessions also link you to services and support related to HIV and gender-based violence.
The workshops are a gateway to other DREAMS programmes and opportunities.
These workshops are two-hour sessions on HIV prevention that focus on HIV risk reduction and the promotion of HIV prevention methods, as well as encouraging the uptake of biomedical prevention services. These sessions also offer participants information on local assistance related to HIV and gender-based violence, and actively link participants to these services.
Working with clinical partners, the programme actively links participants to free HIV testing, HIV prevention through the provision of PrEP and condoms, and advises them on where to get help related to sexual and reproductive health services, HIV treatment, substance abuse and sexual violence.

USAID South Africa has mandated the Centre of Communications Impact (CCI) to support the HIV care and Treatment surge for men through an integrated localised media campaign under the leadership of the Department of Health. CCI works with other USAID partners such as District Support Partners to ensure successful linkage to Men living with HIV to Antiretroviral Therapy and other services such as psychosocial support, Medical Male Circumcision and Gender Based Violence. CCI uses Radio, Out of Home, Social Media and Interpersonal communication platforms to recruit and support men into care and treatment.
Through partnership and support from Population Service International, CCI has employed Men Living with HIV (MLHIV) who are stable on treatment as ‘coaches’ of newly diagnosed men and men who have returned to care after a treatment interruption. They provide ongoing guidance and support, rooted in their personal experience living with HIV, from the point of diagnosis or return to care to the point of treatment stability and viral suppression to their players- mentees.
They help men see treatment as a strategy for gaining control over HIV and feeling strong, healthy, safe, desirable and, ultimately, normal again. They are there to support other MLHIV to reach a point where they can live openly and confidently with HIV, without any of the fear and shame that they might have felt initially.
CCI through its media activities and Coach Mpilo is conducting demand creation activities to support the Men’s treatment surge through mobilising men, health promotion and education, Male Peer to Peer engagements, Men’s Forums, Community Dialogues, activations in male populated areas such as taxi ranks and car wash and participation in some of the community radio activities through male targeted messaging.
Men who are recruited are referred and linked to District Support Partners for care, treatment initiation and retention.
The Woza Asibonisane! partners map the available support networks and services in the communities in which they work. This includes direct service providers who provide:
