Duration : Immediate until 30th of March 2025

Reporting to : In-School Manager

Organisational Background

Centre for Community Impact (CCI) is a non-profit South African organisation based in Pretoria. We

aim to be a centre of excellence in strategic health and development communication programs that

are centred around meaningful Community Engagement.

Position Summary

The Subject Tutor will be responsible for the successful implementation of the AYP programme in

schools. This position includes demand creation, homework and academic support, tutoring of

secondary school subjects at schools and Safe Spaces to reach learning benchmarks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Implementation

• Work with School Based Support Team (SBST) and the school-based Coordinator to develop

an implementation plan for academic support.

• Provide instruction after school or during an intervention or school holidays.

• Demonstrate expertise in specialized school subjects.

• Tutor a minimum of 4 school subjects.

• Guide learners in test-taking strategies, assessment, notetaking and studying for exams.

• Set up and tutor peer education clubs and peer support groups.

• Organize and provide homework supervision sessions.

Quality Assurance

• Provides effective tutoring services for identified learners who are struggling in a specific

academic area of need and to help them attain a higher level of achievement.

• Be innovative in meeting the needs of learners with learning differences.

• Demonstrate a passion for advancing academic progress and helping learners to develop

critical-thinking skills.

Administration and reporting

• Conduct practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals

for exam preparation.

• Provide learners with positive and constructive feedback.

• Offer feedback on progress to the SBST and School-based Coordinator.

• Develop and submit monthly and quarterly reports to the school-based Coordinator,

School Principal or SBST Coordinator.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Manage communication internally and externally with In-School Team and Schools

• Develop and maintain a network of working-level external contacts and service providers.

Personal Development

• Participate in learning and development opportunities (training, workshops, information

sessions etc.).

• Attend and participate in various local stakeholder meetings including the district-Based

Support Teams meetings.

Organizational Ethos, Professional and Personal Development

• Attend Sub-Recipient meetings, briefings, debriefing, staff meetings and others as directed

to do so regularly additional responsibilities delegated by managers from time to time.

• Represent the organization on different platforms including social media, radio interviews,

clubs etc. with pride and ensure you adhere to the ethos and principles.

• Act as a role model to strengthen positive behavior change of the AYP.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric certificate

Tertiary Qualification in Education / Mathematics, Accounting/ Science Obtained or in

Progress

• At least 3 years of teaching/tutoring experience

Advantage: Retired teacher or unemployed teacher or university student

• Recording, drafting, finalizing, and distributing minutes of meetings.

• Planning and organizational skills

• Computer literate in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• A working background in the NGO field

• Ability to communicate in English and local languages.

• Subject expertise in any of the 4 School Subjects. (Languages: English Home Language and

First Additional Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Technology, Economics and

Management Sciences, and Life Orientation).

• Writing Lesson plans

• Understanding of Department of Basic Education policies and regulations and frameworks.

• Understanding of the Department of Basic Education Policy on Screening, Identification,

Assessment and Support
