The JHHESA Board wishes to congratulate Mr Richard Delate on his recent appointment as Managing Director of JHHESA. He replaces the founding Managing Director, Dr Patrick Coleman, who retired in August 2011.
Dr Coleman has left a lasting legacy in health communications in South Africa. His contribution to the country's response to the eradication of disease has borne positive results, and will forever be appreciated by the partners, industry and most importantly, the country.
Richard is a social and behavioral communication, advocacy and media specialist. He has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS, HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health for the past 16 years, with a primary focus on Eastern and Southern Africa.
He joined JHHESA as Country Program Director in 2008 from UNAIDS, where he had worked as the Prevention Advisor and led the development of the UNAIDS HIV Prevention Guidelines. He was also the convener of the UNAIDS HIV Prevention Reference Group, that advised UNAIDS on strengthening HIV prevention programming.
"We are delighted to have Richard as the new Managing Director," says the JHHESA Board's Chairperson, the Rev Desmond Lambrecht. "He takes up this position in an ever-changing socio-political and economically challenged context. As members of the Board, we assure him of our support and guidance. Together with the loyalty and support of such a wonderful team around him, we are confident that JHHESA will go from strength to strength."
